<p>The baby boomer women of today are different from their parents and grandparents. They have seen their elderly parents suffer and lose their independence and want to avoid the same fate happening to them. They have come to understand that the model of aging that applied to their parents is not for them.</p>
<p>They have no intention of &#8217;slowing down&#8217; or &#8216;taking it easy&#8217; and will not be tolerating being called &#8216;elderly&#8217;. It is the physical work or movement that our ancestors used to do on a daily basis but we no longer need to because of technology and mechanization which has robbed us of the means that our bodies need to stay healthy and well. Every single movement we make from breathing to walking from sleeping to driving &#8211; involves our muscles. They enable us to stand upright and hold the bones of our skeleton together and our insides in.</p>
<p>Muscles are unique and have the ability to contract and relax, produce power and force. They are highly active tissue, meaning that the more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism (your body&#8217;s engine). This is a good thing as it means you will be burning more calories both at rest and during physical activity. This enables you to eat more food without gaining weight or to use the extra calorie burn to lose weight.</p>
<p>We often don&#8217;t give the health of our muscles a single thought as they are largely unseen and work away in the background like faithful servants. But we should think about them as after the age of thirty they start to shrink and shrivel unless we look after them. Each year we will lose 300-500 grams of this precious tissue up to age 50 then the rate of the loss doubles.</p>
<p>The end result is disability and loss of independence as we end up not even being strong enough to take care of ourselves on a daily basis. This means someone else has to and we risk the very real possibility of becoming a burden to family, friends, society and ultimately our world.</p>

More muscle tissue means a stronger immune system which is the body&#8217;s armor and defense system.</p>
<p>5) Keeping your muscles strong slows down the aging process &#8211; Unused (unchallenged) muscle tissue shrinks with each decade sucking the life force from you like some dwindling old engine that has lost its power. <p>The fact is many of us are experiencing an accelerated rate of aging that we are not aware of so we do nothing to slow the process down. It will hunt us down if we let it.</p>
<p>Regardless of what is happening around us we each have a choice about how we wish to grow older. We can simply give in to the downward spiral and let our energy and our will to change things be sucked from us, or we can take control, get active and grow strong, fit and energetic.</p>
<p>Yes, it is hard to break free from layers of old beliefs and old conditioning that may have been with us since childhood. Aging is not simply about decay; it is an accumulation of choices about exercise and food that are made every day and consequences of these choices. This will determine if our later years are lived with comfort, independence and high physical activity or those years are lived with infirmity and disease.</p>
<p>A lot of attention is being placed these days on the subject of hormones and how, as we age our body gradually decreases the amount it makes for us. Around age 30, or even earlier the body produces less and less of the hormones that were keeping us young, healthy, fit and kept our body in good shape.</p>
<p>Once we hit 40, 50 or more it becomes critical that we do the things we need to do to keep ourselves healthy and reduce our risk of disability or even an early death through some dreaded disease that wants to make a statistic out of us.</p>
<p>Far and away the most important thing we can do to offset the aging process is a proper exercise program. Training at the right intensity level forces the body out of its comfort zone and this creates a hormonal response to keep it going. This release of a protein hormone in particular called human growth hormone is in direct opposition to the aging process.</p>
<p>With our body producing fewer hormones over time this leads to the inability to rebuild ourselves until we eventually break down and our time on this planet is terminated. Proper exercise such as strength training exercise counteracts this by forcing our bodies to produce more hormones that are produced naturally at a given age.</p>
<p>This keeps our muscles, bones, and every organ and cell in our body from deteriorating as fast as they naturally would. The result is that, with the continued exercise program the aging process is not only slowed down you get to &#8220;wake your body up&#8221;.</p>
<p>You may have heard of hormone replacement therapy as an anti aging tool. Intense exercise is the cheaper, natural way of doing exactly the same thing. It is also much more effective but you can&#8217;t afford to waste time with exercises that aren&#8217;t going to do the job. Not all types of exercise will coerce your body into releasing this anti aging magic.</p>
<p>The types of exercises that will stimulate your body to release this very special &#8220;fitness hormone&#8221; are large muscle group, multi joint exercises that recruit a large number of muscle fibers at once. The workout must be strenuous and sustained enough to create muscle exhaustion.</p>

It is not about working longer it is about working harder which will give the greatest &#8220;bang for your buck&#8221;. This will also be a great investment as you will receive at least three times the results from your program in half of the time.</p>
<p>When you learn to structure and perform your exercise program for optimal hormonal response, the difference in results will astonish you and carve years if not decades from your body both inside and out.</p>

Strength, vitality, abundant energy, vigor, quickness of mind, mood and immunity all define what we equate with youth and we can keep much of these things intact with the right tools.</p>
<p>It is starting to become better known that our body is designed to last at least two to three times the years that is actually does. But we allow ourselves to grow old and feeble long before we need too because we are conditioned to expect that we can do nothing to slow the progress of the outgoing tide of age.</p>
<p>When we are young our body holds its own and is able to regenerate new tissue, create energy and defend itself against disease. <p>All of us want to live a long and healthy life. But if you carry excess body fat on your frame and are in fact overweight, though, you may be setting yourself up for a shorter lifespan than the one you expected.</p>
<p>Excess body fat is directly linked to so many diseases and conditions that it can no longer be thought of as solely a cosmetic or superficial issue. The more body fat you have on your frame, the higher your risk of leaving this world well before your time.</p>
