Exercise And Diet Leads To More Success With Weight Loss

Every day millions of people search on the internet for ways to lose weight fast. Many are persuaded to sign up for this diet product or for this weight loss plan that may work in the short term. No effective long term weight loss plan will be complete without stressing the importance of regular exercise. Losing weight and then keeping it off as well as leading a healthier lifestyle all require regular exercise.

I wonder how many people are truly aware of the almost epidemic rise of obesity in the western world. Forget about the worries over smoking, if you are seriously overweight, ask yourself…

- Do you want type two diabetes
- Do you want high blood pressure
- Do you want to heighten the risk of cancer
- Do you want to suffer a stroke or heart attack.

This alarming rise in obesity and related health problems worries me. What is equally concerning is in the number of people that beleiev there is a magic pill or magic cure – there isn’t.

However, losing weight and adopting a healthier lifestyle is the best thing you can do for yourself.

This is not rocket science. In fact the formula is a very simple one, in order to lose weight, you need to decrease the number of calories that you eat as well as increase the amount of calories that you burn.

Remember all those online searches I mentioned earlier looking for easy weight loss. They will tell you

- what to eat
- how much to eat
- when to eat it
- what not to eat.

How many tell you about staying healthy at the same time? How many talk about exercise?

So, why is exercise an important part of any weight loss plan?

Exercise burns calories so that you can lose weight faster. This leads to increased motivation and more people are likely to stick with their weight loss plan.

Did you know that when you exercise, you actually release chemicals called endorphins which heighten the modd you are in (nice bonus!)

Also, when you start to eat less as part of your diet, your metabolism will slow down. Exercise increases your metabolic rate so it returns to a more effective level.

I can hear some of you now, I hate the gym, I hate exercise, all that jogging yeuk!

Rather than exercise I want you to think abot “a healthy lifestyle”.

This means a gradual change from the one you lead now instead of an all or nothing approach.

Gradually increase the amount of physical exercise you do on a daily basis, around the house, walking to the local store, using stairs instead of elevators. Over time and when you are ready you can think about more strenuous exercise such as dancing, swimming, or taking up a sporting activity.

This is a self fulfilling prophecy so to speak – the more exercise you are able to do over time, the more you will want to do. The healthier and fitter you become will motivate you to stay fit and healthy.

For those who have physical limitations it can be a lot more difficult. However, this is where your local swimming pool and sports centres come to the rescue. Many will have special courses or classes for those who need the additional help and support.

Bottom line – make the experience of exercising something that you look forward to, and enjoy. Before you know it, it will be a regular part of your healthier lifestyle.

weight loss plans without exercise may bring some short term benefits but will only frustrate and disappoint you in the longer term.
