You Need Your Strength To Keep You Healthy
It’s a fact, our busy modern day lives are so filled with busyness we want everything fast and convenient to fit into our busy schedules. We no longer bother to cook from scratch and it is easier to become overweight than it is to have a health eating regime. And the thought of taking some time out of the day for exercise does not seem to be on the list of priorities for most.
But if only we could slow down and take a look around to see the damage we are doing to our long term health and wellbeing we may begin to slow down a little. Our hospitals are full of people with who are sick with diseases directly related to our laid back, apathetic and inactive life styles and poor eating habits.
We used to think that proper exercise was something that you only did if you wanted to look good or lose weight. But now we know that the lack of proper muscle building and toning activity in our lives is one of the factors responsible for the epidemic of chronic ‘lifestyle’ diseases afflicting the modern world. These diseases include the killer ‘big three’ heart disease, cancer and diabetes along with dozens of others.
In the US alone over 4600 people die every single day from these preventable diseases. The human and economic cost of this human health holocaust over time to families and countries is staggering. It is now believed that one out of every two people on this planet has a chronic lifestyle disease and many have multiple conditions.
Over 1000 million people are overweight, many of them obese and so many other people are unwell, feel fatigued and lack the energy and motivation to get themselves moving. But somehow we have to get ourselves moving as this situation is not good for our long term health and wellbeing. Already it is predicted that children being born today will have a shortened lifespan of around 20-30 years. We cannot in good faith leave this legacy to future generations.
We somehow have to accept that although we have taken out virtually all of the physical activity from our modern day lives we have made a mistake as our bodies cannot stay healthy without it. This movement or ‘work’ stimulates the hormones (the chemical messengers) that instruct every cell, tissue organ and system in the human body to renew, replace, rebuild and repair.
All we can do now is to put some of this movement back in the form of strength training exercise. But it does not have to be a big chore. Just 2-3 sessions each week of the right program performed at the right intensity (degree of difficulty) is enough to keep us healthy. But to make sure it is effective seeking the help of a fitness professional is a good idea who can monitor your progress along the way and update your program every few weeks.
Surely this is a better solution than risking becoming unhealthy due to not enough proper exercise. Imagine if we all got stuck into a strength training program, the hospitals would be virtually empty which is not a bad thing is it?
